INDIANAPOLIS — Daylight saving time can disrupt family sleep schedules, but local parenting expert Jeanine Bobenmoyer of theCityMoms is sharing tips to help families adjust.

“The time change doesn’t have to mean sleepless nights for your family,” Bobenmoyer said. “With a few simple adjustments starting a week before, everyone can adapt more easily.”

Creating a Better Sleep Environment

Bobenmoyer recommends making changes to bedrooms to promote better sleep, including:

  • Keeping bedroom temperatures between 65 and 68 degrees.
  • Using breathable cotton bedding.
  • Dimming lights 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime.
  • Considering the Eight Sleep Pod 6 smart bed system for temperature control and sleep tracking.

Preparing Children for the Time Change

Parents can help children adjust by gradually shifting their schedules before the time change. Bobenmoyer recommends:

  • Moving bedtime 10 to 15 minutes earlier each night for a week before the time change.
  • Maintaining consistent bedtime routines, including baths, reading and turning out the lights.
  • Keeping regular wake-up times, even on weekends.
  • Encouraging children to spend time outdoors in the morning to get natural light exposure.

Products to Help With Sleep

Bobenmoyer also highlighted several products that may help families establish healthier sleep routines, including:

  • The Yogasleep Rise-to-Wake clock.
  • White noise machines and other sound machines.
  • The Maxi-Cosi C360 Pro baby monitor with Cry Assist technology.

Parents should prioritize their own sleep, too. Bobenmoyer recommends keeping phones out of the bedroom and using a traditional alarm clock instead.

For side sleepers, she also recommends the Eli and Elm pillow for additional neck support.
